The real strength of the Morgan horse is not in harness or under saddle, but in its ability to bring people together and form lasting relationships. |

If you have read our "History" page you know how this Morgan story started. That page gives you a look at the past and the people and horses that introduced us to the Morgan breed. (For more details about the actual horses and their breeding be sure to check out their individual pages from our "Horses Today" page) It is where our foundation came from in philosophy and in the horses we now create. Picking up where that story left off, is the evolution of what is now called TripleSweet Morgans.
Setting out, charting the course of the future and life, we still had Meyer Sweet Splendor and Norbilines Rip Taron as our equine companions, but with the hustle and bustle of launching careers and a family, they were more of a welcome distaction from work and beautiful yard ornaments than anything else for some time. We purchased an attractive piece of property in a valley in Upstate New York. It consists of 40 acres of fields and rolling wooded hills. The farmhouse, being nearly 200 years old, has been a labor of love and a test of patience as it gets care, renovation and expansion little by little as time and money allows.
Most importantly though, this proprerty has given us peace and a wonderful place to raise children, as we have been blessed with 3 beautiful daughters. With fields, woods, streams and a pond, it is nature's playground. The girls have a new experience each day and never tire of exploring, hiking, fishing and catching all kinds of creatures for study. You will notice on the top of many of the pages of this website, small photographs of nature that we see all around us. It plays a big part in our daily lives and is respected, enjoyed and appreciated as much as possible. This property also provided a wonderful and picturesque space for having horses. And like the house, each year we strive to fence in more and more for use and improve our equine haven.
Once the days of diapers and bottles were behind us and the emergency/must do house renovations completed, the horses were calling again. We went to shows now and again to watch throughout the years and stayed in touch with our many Morgan friends. But for some time we had been on the fringe and now felt the desire to expand our wings. We had lost my gelding Rip to colic which was a very sad day indeed. And the more we looked at Splendor who had matured into such a fine mare, the more we didn't want her to be alone. In addition to all that this property provided, we also wanted our children to grow up with horses. We so enjoyed it growing up, that we wanted them to have the experience as well.
And so it began....... again.
Operating now as a family entity, from the horse perspective, nothing really had to change. This is the beauty of the Morgan Horse. It knows its place and behavior in every circumstance. The intelligence with which it can assess a situation and respond accordingly and appropriately is astounding. So we don't have to alter our breeding philosophy or train horses differently to accomodate children. Just the opposite. Our main goal is primarily to train the children to be around horses, so they can understand and enjoy them to the fullest.
Which is just what they are doing.
What did have to change however to reflect our new identity was our name. Though we still work with my mother who continues to operate under the prefix of "Meyer Sweet", we needed an identity to reflect our new family venture and environment. So after much soul searching and head scratching, the name of "TripleSweet Morgans" was chosen to carry us into the future. And the inspiration and namesakes can be seen here to the left.
We are tripley blessed as each child is now certifiably "Horse Crazy".
We owe much of this to the horses themselves, for the morgan breed is very child friendly. Each day we are thankful for the patience, tolerance and intelligence these horses have and exhibit with our family.
And these traits are part of what we breed for. For in all honesty, we know that every horse that is produced is not destined for performance greatness no matter what farm, sire or dam it comes from. So if the horse is not bred for sound mind and body, then you have absolutely nothing in the end. On the flip side, if the horse is delivered with natural physical ability, PLUS it has a sound mind and body, then you have everything you will ever need to reach whatever goals you set.
We have a strong bond and adherence to the Morgan characteristics and bloodlines that have made this breed great. We aim to produce Morgans with type in mind and body. We have strong preferences for old government and foundation blood lines, which will produce a compact horse with natural athletic ability in the front AND rear. Our foundation mare is descended from horses of size and producing horses in their image. As we continue to breed this line, and others that we introduce, we look forward to producing foals each year for your consideration. We will strive to be a small family farm dedicated to producing only quality Morgan horses for the family and/or show ring. Please be sure to check our "Horses" page to review the horses that make up our farm.
